For five years, our Diocese has been praying and seeking to serve the people of Liberia who have suffered so much through 18 years of civil war.
On Sunday morning, June 22, 2008 Bishop Hart, the new leader of the Diocese of Liberia, preached at St. Peter’s, Springfield, where his fellow Liberian, Father Dee Bright is the rector. Later, the Bishop joined our Liberia Task Force at St. Matthew’s, Worcester.
He says that there are about 120,000 Episcopalians in Liberia, worshiping in about 150 congregations served by 41 priests and 22 new deacons. It was a great joy for the Liberia Task Force and Bishop Scruton to present Bishop Hart with a check for $35,875.08 to be used to purchase used vehicles for his clergy.
The gift came from the tithes of our Alleluia Fund for several years, from significant gifts from congregations and from the offerings at the last two Diocesan Conventions.
