September 22, 2010
Dear Friends in Christ,
Let's be ready for the 109th Convention of the Diocese of Western Massachusetts, which will be held on October 22-23 at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Springfield. Please send in your meal registration NOW!
Bishop Scruton has invited the Rev. Tanya Wallace (All Saints' South Hadley) to serve as our chaplain. Special music is planned and the Convention Eucharist will be held at the Hotel this year. We will be hearing/seeing 'live' some of our missionaries from around the globe.
Remember that the final of the three pre-Convention Corridor meetings will be on Thursday October 7 in the Berkshire corridor at St. Helena's, Lenox beginning at 7 PM. Agenda items will include the proposed canonical changes, an introduction to the 2011 Ministry Plan & Budget, Nominees for office and more.
DELEGATE & CLERGY Registration on 10/22 begins at 11:45 a.m. and will continue as announced.
Please note this year is a return to a two day Convention and all of our work will be at the Sheraton. We have much to engage!
For those participating in the annual Western Massachusetts Diocesan Convention for the first time - we pray you will find it to be a source of inspiration and a joy to serve. Others who have attended before can still be surprised and moved by the Spirit. The prayer is always: Lord, allow convention to soar and show us the way forward in mission.
You will find enclosed in this digital posting the various reports and schedule of the work and ministry of Convention. Other helpful items are enclosed with this 2nd Convention packet. Bring it all with you to the Sheraton!
Faithfully yours,
The Venerable William H. Coyne,
Secretary of Convention

RE: The 109th Annual Meeting of the Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts
For one hundred and nine years now, Episcopalians throughout the five western counties of the Commonwealth have gathered to discern God’s call to mission as the Diocese of Western Massachusetts. This year, we will gather as “a Convocation of Missionaries” over two days - still leaner and greener as last year but with substantial work to accomplish. While all the details are not yet settled, we are planning –
• a two day Convention on Friday / Saturday, October 22-23, 2010 in Springfield.
• to have all pre-Convention materials available on the Diocesan website. Paper copies will be mailed only to those who request paper copies.
• to make sure the registration fee for delegates and the amount spent from the Diocesan budget for Convention is appropriate to economic realities.
Canonical changes, election of General Convention deputies & alternates and pre-Convention corridor meetings will be part of the normal round of the 2010 Convention experience.
Therefore, you are hereby notified that the 109th Annual Meeting of the Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts will be held at the Springfield Sheraton Hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts on Friday & Saturday, October 22-23, 2010.
