SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Episcopal Diocese of western Massachusetts has launched a program to help solve what it calls an epidemic of isolation among older veterans.
The program is called Building Bridges Among Veterans.
That included an invitation to Chicopee veterans to attend a prime rib lunch on Friday at the Lodge of Elks on Granby Road.
The Reverend Christopher Carlisle is director of the initiative.
“The goal is to really to coalesce communities of veterans who otherwise might not find each other and might also be having difficulty in engaging in the surrounding communities where they live,” said Rev. Carlisle.
Friday’s luncheon was just one a series of veteran gatherings.
Others have been held in Greenfield and Northampton.
